Alephant are a London-based consultancy, specialising in Hadoop Integration for Big Data. Helping businesses, big and small, new or well-established, to tackle their informational requirements with modern data techniques.

Alephant was originally formed as OpenWen Analysts Ltd (OWAL) by Alex McLintock in the last century (1997, to be precise) to provide software development services, primarily, to companies with offices in London. Since then OWAL has worked for some of the biggest names in finance, such as SwissRe, Deutsche Bank, Brevan Howard Asset Management, and Lehman Brothers, as well as Reuters.

As the words OpenWeb imply, our focus was, and is, on using the very best open-source software and related techniques, to help get your data to the appropriate web application or other end user.

As Analysts, we help you define which open source software best suits your needs; we find the best data, whether internal or external to the business; and rationalise the back-end of your web applications. In short we integrate your systems, front to back.

We are Hortonworks partners, and generally, but not exclusively, recommend the Hortonworks packaging of Hadoop and related software, where appropriate. This enables you to fulfil your ever-increasing data needs with multiple machines, whilst accessing it as if it was only one.

If you are a funded or pre-funded start-up, anticipating a need for Big Data in your final product, but need help with a lower-cost ?proof of concept? solution, we can help with setting up a small, cost-appropriate server (or cluster of servers) that scales up, as needed.
